Fire Chief Johnathan Martin

Johnathan Martin

Fire Chief

Johnathan Martin is the Fire Chief of Southern California Wildfire Response, a community wildland fire department protecting the Santa Monica Mountains, the San Fernando Valley, and the wildland-urban interface communities of Los Angeles and its neighboring counties.

A third-generation firefighter, he was raised in the fire service, where his grandparents and mother answered the call before him and the local firehouse served as a second home. That upbringing shaped a leader who sees firefighting as a calling rather than a job, grounded in a simple conviction: the communities living closest to the fire line deserve a dedicated, highly capable force ready to defend them.

SCWR fields Type 6 engines and a Type 2 hand crew staffed by professional firefighters who forgo a paycheck for the greater good of the community, operating in some of the most challenging terrain in Southern California.

On call around the clock, Chief Martin leads from the front, combining operational command with a steady focus on interagency partnership, community preparedness, and building a department that will serve the region for generations to come.
